Fall in Chicago: lattes, football games, and leaf peeping

Dusty Tidwell

Autumn is my favorite time of year in Chicago. The air is crisp, the leaves are changing colors, and there are so many fun things to do.

Here are a few of my favorite things to do in Chicago during the fall:

  • Go leaf peeping. Chicago has some amazing places to see the fall foliage. Some of my favorite spots include Millennium & Lincoln Parks, the Chicago Botanic Garden, and Belmont Harbor from the lake.
  • Attend a fall festival. There are many fall festivals held throughout the Chicago area, each with its own unique offerings. Some popular festivals include the Night of 1,000 Jack-o'-Lanterns, the Chicago Beer Fest, and the Lincoln Park Wine Fest.
  • Visit a museum. Chicago is home to some of the world's best museums, and many of them offer special exhibits and events during the fall season. For example, the Field Museum hosts an annual Halloween exhibit called Eerie-Okefenokee, and the Art Institute of Chicago often has special exhibitions featuring fall-themed artwork.
  • Cheer on the Chicago Bears. Football season is in full swing during the fall, and there's nothing quite like cheering on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Even if you're not a big football fan, the experience of attending a Bears game is electric.
  • Enjoy an autumnal latte. There are plenty of places to get seasonal coffee drinks in Chicago. Some popular coffee shops in our neighborhood include Bae Coffee Company, Hero Coffee Bar, and Intelligentsia.

If you're looking for a fun and festive way to spend the fall season, Chicago is the place to be. With its stunning fall foliage, exciting events, and endless activities, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Here are a few additional casual tips for making the most of fall in Chicago:

  • Dress in layers. The weather in Chicago can be unpredictable in the fall, so it's important to dress in layers so that you can adjust to the changing temperatures.
  • Bring an umbrella. It's always a good idea to have an umbrella with you in Chicago, especially during the fall when it tends to rain more often.
  • Take advantage of free activities. There are many free things to do in Chicago during the fall, such as visiting the Millennium Park, walking along the Lakefront Trail, and attending fall festivals.
  • Support local businesses. Fall is a great time to support local businesses in Chicago. Many restaurants and shops offer special fall menus and promotions.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy the fall season in Chicago!
